Brandi is a native of Forest, Mississippi. She earned her undergraduate degree in history and master’s degree in history and sociology from Mississippi College before graduating from Mississippi College School of Law in 2010.
While in law school, Brandi clerked at Kitchens & Ellis, a law firm focused primarily on civil plaintiffs’ practice and criminal defense. It was there that Brandi was first introduced post-conviction practice as one of her first research and writing assignments was to assist with the preparation of a petition for post-conviction relief. After graduating law school, Brandi served as a judicial clerk at the Supreme Court of Mississippi for now Presiding Justice James W. Kitchens. In 2011, Brandi entered private practice as a solo practitioner. As a solo practitioner, she represented clients diverse in nature, including representation of indigent persons facing criminal charges and people needing post-conviction representation at the state and federal levels. Brandi continued in that line of practice until joining the Office of Capital Post-Conviction Counsel in June 2024.
Brandi is an active member of the Mississippi Bar Association, an American Bar Foundation Fellow, a member of American Association for Justice, a Past-President of Mississippi Association for Justice, a Past-President of Mississippi Women Lawyers’ Association, a former Ambassador to Public Justice, and a multi-year Selectee as a Super Lawyers Rising Star.
Brandi is licensed to practice in all Mississippi state courts, the Northern and Southern Federal District Courts of Mississippi, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
